A union of families
When a couple marries, our community sees not only a bride and groom but two families becoming one. Relatives near and far — and often those who have settled overseas — make the journey home so that no one misses the occasion. The days of preparation, shared cooking, and gathering are as treasured as the wedding itself.
Before the wedding
The celebrations unfold over many days. It begins with theengagement, which seals the promise between the two families. In the days that follow come themameru, when the maternal family arrives with its gifts, along with evenings of mehndi, music, and blessings as the households prepare to welcome their new member.
The wedding day
On the day itself, the families gather for the marriage ceremony according to their faith and tradition — anikahfor Muslim families, and the sacred rites observed by our Jain and Hindu families. Vows and blessings are exchanged before elders and loved ones, followed by feasting that carries long into the day.
After the wedding
The joy does not end when the ceremony closes. The bride is welcomed into her new home with warmth and blessing, and the families continue to celebrate through theujaniand other gatherings, visiting one another and sharing meals as the new bond settles into everyday life.
